Ink21 revolves around the collaboration between visual artist Mila Lynn and Hip-Hop artist Torrey Gray. Following up to their 2020 collaboration, this time they opened the doors to many artists in the Detroit and Lansing areas.

The project is based on a prompt list provided by a national organization by the name of Inktober. Every year, the organization encourages artists to practice their discipline throughout 31 days of constantly creating visual art based on a new list of prompts every October.

Mila Lynn and Torrey Gray put a spin on the project by incorporating music. Torrey Gray is the only known Rapper and Producer to successfully complete the 31 days of creativity. As a visual artist, Mila used music from the project to pair with the creation of her art work based on the same prompt. The pieces were put up for sale every day of October for $125. The two artists were able to sell every single piece (for the second year in a row) leading up to a close out event where other visual artists were able to auction their artwork off as well.

It is important to understand that each song you hear on this project was written and recorded in one day, as the Inktober challenge calls for. This is an experimental project featuring a plethora of artists from Lansing and Detroit. Enjoy this epic display of creativity through audio production, as all beats were made by Torrey Gray with contributions from other associates of the Define Detroit Collective.
